As people start to learn denial management they program through a sequence of stages in their ability to recognize denial that goes like this:

Stage 1:  I donít recognize my denial until after completing this part of the exercise and reviewing my answers;

Stage 2:  I recognize my denial while I was answering the questions;

Stage 3: I noticed the urge to start using denial before I started to answer the question, but I ended up using denial when I answered the questions anyway.

Stage 4:  I noticed the urge to start using denial before I started to answer the question, and stopped my denial and answered the questions honestly.
