| Police
officers experience a series of unique factors that contribute to
experiencing chronic levels of high stress punctuated at regular
intervals by critical incidents that induce traumatic stress responses. If
this stress is not appropriately managed symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder (PTSD), reactive personality change and substance abuse, and
secondary life problems including divorce and stress-related illness can
develop.
Here is an excellent website for understanding the problem of Police
Stress and working for solutions within your community.
